Programs, events and resources

Geisinger faculty can refer to our Faculty Development SharePoint site (Geisinger login and password required) for more information about upcoming programs, courses, activities, events, and teaching and development resources. Continuing education credits are available for many of our offerings.

Programs

•  Improving the Learning Environment through Educators (ILEEd): A one-year, longitudinal faculty development course designed to develop faculty competencies in Health Systems Science (HSS) and Systems-Based Practice (SBP)
•  Medical Education Certificate Course (MECC): A one-year, longitudinal faculty development opportunity to enhance the teaching and learning skills of faculty preceptors, coaches, mentors and advisors
•  Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment: A course to help achieve the goals of competency-based medical education

Resident and fellow development

Faculty development also offers courses geared toward residents and fellows, such as:

•  Central Line Course
•  Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST)
•  Residents and Fellows as Teachers (RACE)
•  Residents as Clinician Educators

Activities

•  Our Mission to Teach Conference: A annual opportunity to immerse faculty in a specific educational theme, such as precision education, health systems science, diversity, simulation curriculum and more
•  Foundations in Medical Education: Monthly, virtual one-hour sessions that focus on one of following four foundational topics in medical education: learning theory, clinical teaching, classroom teaching, and assessment and evaluation
•  Foundations in Health Systems Science: Fifty-minute virtual lectures that expand the understanding and incorporation of HSS concepts into our curriculum and programs to equip our learners and faculty to appreciate the broader healthcare system, the social determinants of health, cost management, system improvement, quality improvement and patient-centered care
•  Medical Education Grand Rounds: A virtual educational activity held on a quarterly basis focusing on various topics
•  Faculty meet and greets: Monthly events to help orient new faculty members to faculty affairs and faculty development opportunities at Geisinger College of Health Sciences 

Teaching and development resources

•  Faculty First: A monthly update on the latest news about and for our faculty 
•  Faculty Development Resource Index: A one-stop shop for faculty development resources
•  Infographics: Aids for teaching in the classroom and the clinical learning environment
•  Educational technology tutorials: Video tutorials and/or handouts on various educational technology tools to assist across the competency areas of curriculum design, teaching/instruction, assessment, scholarship, leadership, and wellness/professionalism
•  Enduring materials: On-demand activities in which the participant decides whether, where and when to complete the activity
