Paying your Geisinger bill just got easier
You can now pay your bills directly in MyChart. This makes it easier to manage your payments, all in one streamlined system. As part of this updated process, you’ll no longer submit payments through Geisinger BillPay.
We’re also transitioning to paperless billing.

We’re integrating billing with our Epic electronic health record. This allows seamless communication between clinical and billing systems, improved billing accuracy and streamlined workflows for our employees and patients.
With billing in MyChart, you’ll have an easier login experience along with access to enhanced features, like:
- The ability to pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay
- Real-time balance notifications
- New balance notifications: Pay the amount due without waiting for your next statement.
- Balance update notifications: Get updates when there are changes to your balance.
- Opt in or out of notifications at any time or change notification preferences in your MyGeisinger account settings by selecting 'Notifications.' Choose email, text or mobile app notifications.
- Tailored payment plans
- Access to payment history (including copays)
- The ability to view and print annual tax documents, available at the beginning of each calendar year

MyChart provides convenient access to your Geisinger medical record, allowing you to schedule appointments, message your care team and customer service, view your lab and test results and more. Sign up for MyChart today.
There are certain services Geisinger contracts with outside groups to provide, like Geisinger Emergency Management Services (GEMS) and Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center.
Bills for those services do not come from Geisinger, so you’ll continue to receive those as you do now. They will not be available in MyChart.
Paperless billing statements have lots of advantages. They’re more secure and more environmentally friendly. Plus, viewing and paying your bills online is easy, whether you’re using the MyGeisinger website or the MyChart mobile app.
The transition to paperless billing will be gradual. Here's what you can expect:
If you have a BillPay account with communication preferences set to either digital or paper billing, your preferences will transfer to MyChart, and you’ll continue to receive your bill in the same way you have previously.
If you don’t have communication preferences set in either BillPay or MyChart, you’ll eventually be moved to paperless billing and all billing statement notifications will be sent by text, email or MyChart app notification.
- Still prefer to receive paper bills? To change back to paper billing, follow these steps:
- Log into MyChart.
- Click on “Menu” and scroll to the “Billing” section.
- Select “Billing Summary,” click “Cancel paperless billing” and follow the steps to opt out.
- Need help opting out? Call technical support at 570-214-0003, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or visit the technical support page.
If you have a BillPay account with paperless billing selected but do not have a MyChart account, you’ll need to create an account to continue receiving paperless bills.
- If you don't have a BillPay or MyChart account and don’t want to sign up for MyChart, you can continue receiving paper bills in the mail or paying your bills in MyChart without an account.
- Any billing from third-party partners (like Geisinger Emergency Management Services or Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center) will remain the same as it is today — those bills will not be in MyChart.
Resuming paper statements is easy. You’ll need to opt out of paperless statements in MyChart via the web or mobile app or log in as a guest.
Follow these instructions to opt back into receiving paper billing statements:
- Log into MyChart.
- Click on “Menu” and scroll to the “Billing” section.
- Select “Billing Summary,” click “Cancel paperless billing” and follow the steps to opt out.

Yes. Resuming paper statements is easy. You’ll need to opt out of paperless statements in MyChart via the web or mobile app.

- Select “Billing Summary,” click “Cancel paperless billing” and follow the steps to opt out.

Only Geisinger patients with BillPay and MyChart accounts will be defaulted to paperless billing. If you are not signed up for MyChart, you’ll continue receiving paper statements.
Make sure you have your MyChart notifications turned on and confirm that your email address and mobile phone number on file are correct.
It may be because you don’t have notifications turned on. To check your notification settings in MyChart:
- Click on Menu > Account Settings > Notifications.
- Then, under Details > Billing > Advanced Settings, you can select how you would like to receive notifications.
Geisinger will reach out to you if you have an outstanding balance. At 30 days past due, a second statement notification will be sent. Be sure to check your notification preferences in MyChart.
At 60 days past due, a paper statement will be sent to your address on file. And at 90 days past due, another paper statement will be mailed.
Yes. Bills from Geisinger hospitals, clinics and employed physicians will be transitioned to paperless. However, there are certain services Geisinger contracts with outside groups to provide, like Geisinger Emergency Management Services (GEMS) and Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center. Bills for those services do not come from Geisinger, so you’ll continue to receive those bills as you do now.
Once your statement is available, you will have the option to create a payment plan from your Account Summary in MyChart. Creating a payment plan means a set amount will be automatically charged to your credit card or deducted from your bank account on the same date each month.
You can choose the amount and the date. However, the system will require a minimum payment based on the total amount you owe.
If needed, you can update an existing payment plan by changing the monthly amount, payment date and/or payment method.
Take note:
- New balance amounts may be automatically added to your payment plan, which will increase the length of time needed to complete it. The amount you pay monthly will not change.
- However, large balances that would require an increase in your monthly payment amount are not automatically added to your payment plan.
- Be sure to pay all balance amounts not included in a payment plan by the due date indicated on the statement or in MyChart.

Financial arrangements
Before you seek non-emergency treatment at Geisinger, we suggest you contact your employer or insurance company to make sure you are covered and that Geisinger accepts your insurance. Click for a list of

Note that you are responsible for all charges not paid by insurance. We accept personal checks and most major credit cards (Visa and MasterCard).

Apply for Medical Assistance
Depending on your household size and monthly income, you may qualify for Medical Assistance, also known as Medicaid, and sometimes referred to as MA. What kind of care is available through Medical Assistance?
