Change Healthcare update
In February, Change Healthcare — a technology company, Geisinger vendor and one of the largest healthcare clearinghouses — experienced an unprecedented cyberattack that disrupted its systems and services nationwide.
When Geisinger learned of this issue, we immediately severed all connections between Change Healthcare and Geisinger systems. Change Healthcare has since confirmed that certain Geisinger patient billing and claims information was accessed in Change Healthcare's system.
In the wake of this incident, Change Healthcare is offering free two-year credit monitoring and identity theft protections. Geisinger is encouraging our patients (and those with children under the age of 18 who also are patients) to enroll in the free services.
Change Healthcare is notifying affected Geisinger patients that their data was compromised and that credit monitoring services are available to them.
