We’re asking healthcare practitioners in the Geisinger Health Plan network to consider how you can connect the Haitian-Creole-speaking community with needed services.

As you may be aware, thousands of Haitian migrants and refugees have arrived in Washington County, Pa. — specifically the community of Charleroi — over the past few years. Amid language barriers, financial challenges and the limitations of social and governmental support available in smaller western Pennsylvania communities, it’s difficult to connect these folks with the basic healthcare afforded to all residents.

We’re reaching out to you as a trusted healthcare provider in the area to ask for help identifying and fulfilling the basic healthcare needs of this vulnerable population — especially if you speak Haitian-Creole or have experience in aiding migrant populations.

For more information, visit the CDC’s immigrant and refugee health page.
